Pelvic Floor

A Message From Terra Gegg, MPT, PCES, Owner and Founder of Enhance Physical Therapy

Dysfunction of the pelvic floor in women can arise from various factors. One of the primary causes is childbirth, whether delivered vaginally or via C-section, which can stretch muscles and nerves, harm connective tissue, alter the position of the pelvis, and impair muscular contractions due to scar tissue. Hormonal fluctuations throughout a woman’s life may also impact pelvic floor function. Traumas such as falls, car accidents, surgical complications, or distressing sexual experiences can also result in pelvic floor dysfunction, leading to pain and/or incontinence. Some females are born with overly tight muscles, causing pain and incontinence. Additionally, conditions such as endometriosis, interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome), and pudendal neuralgia are commonly linked with pelvic pain, painful sex, and incontinence.

Studies suggest that roughly 1 in 3 women will experience pelvic floor disorders in her lifetime and the probability of developing one increases with age. Surprisingly, incontinence is a primary reason for admission to nursing homes. Although it may be common, pelvic floor dysfunction is not a normal or acceptable aspect of aging. It is crucial to tackling these problems promptly when they initially arise.

Enhance Physical Therapy offers assistance in identifying the source of your concerns, followed by creating a customized program to tackle your specific dysfunctions. Treatment options may comprise:

  • Myofascial release
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Stretching of the pelvic floor
  • Strengthening of the pelvic floor
  • Coordination of pelvic floor muscles with the rest of the body

Endure no more. Enhance Physical Therapy is here to assist you.

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you are in the right place!

  • Your doctor advised you to rest for six weeks before resuming your regular routine, but despite the time that has passed, you are still struggling with your condition.
  • You were told that following some workout videos on YouTube would help you regain your fitness quickly, but instead, those workouts cause pain and leakage, making you feel terrible and discouraged.
  • It’s commonly believed that experiencing pain or abdominal separation after childbirth and having bladder control problems is a normal occurrence as you age.
  • Taking painkillers is presumed to solve all your problems.
  • Medication, surgeries, or merely accepting the situation are the only available options.

In Reality,

  • Merely resting won’t make a significant difference. Although you may experience minor, temporary relief, you will still encounter pelvic pain, leakage, and other postpartum symptoms once you become active again (you’ve probably already experienced it!).
  • Although it is prevalent, experiencing persistent pain or urine leakage following pregnancy, or even as you age, is NOT NORMAL.
  • Pain medication can be addictive, and dangerous, and lead to numerous other health issues.
  • Medication, surgery, or injections are not the sole choices. They are merely the alternatives that your physician can provide you with.

Enhance Physical Therapy Specializes in Aiding Individuals Who Experience Leakage, Pain During Sex, Unresolved Low Back Pain, or a Post-pregnancy Belly Regain the Ability to Participate in the Activities They Enjoy Without the Need for Medication, Pads, or Surgical Intervention.

Selecting the appropriate healthcare provider is crucial for your well-being. Failure to do so may result in unnecessary surgical procedures, reliance on medication or painkillers, or a lifetime of progressively worsening symptoms.

It is crucial that you obtain the “least-invasive” and most natural treatment to alleviate your leakage, abdominal separation issues, pelvic floor problems, or postpartum hip/back/pelvic pain and prevent their recurrence. Collaborating with a healthcare provider who comprehends the interrelatedness of the entire body is vital for your recuperation. Throughout our lifetimes, our bodies undergo tremendous transformations. Therefore, to achieve complete recovery, we must address changes in our neck/back/diaphragm/core/pelvic floor/pelvis, posture, strength, and body usage, which are much more complex than just relying on Kegels.

Merely addressing the symptoms is insufficient for achieving complete recovery. You must seek the assistance of a proficient healthcare provider who is ready to identify the underlying cause of your symptoms and dysfunction. That is when you can obtain a lasting resolution to your problems.

Enhance Physical Therapy Has Created a Three-Step Method to Help Eliminate Your Pelvic Pain Symptoms.

Step 1 - We Are Eager to Hear Your Story.

The medical system can be exasperating. Despite waiting for weeks or even months for an appointment, you only get to converse with the doctors for 10 minutes before they have to rush to attend to the next patient. Consequently, you are left perplexed and questioning, “What just transpired?”

Even most physical therapy clinics function in the same manner. They lack attentiveness, rush through appointments, and therapists do not have adequate time to comprehend your important goals or offer one-on-one sessions. This is precisely why we operate in a distinct manner!

This is precisely why our initial step is to lend an ear to your story.

Having worked successfully with numerous women with postpartum concerns, we understand that every individual is unique. Each person has a distinct body, history, and varying types of pain and symptoms.

That is precisely why our initial step is to initiate an open conversation and allow ample time for you to narrate your story. This enables us to acquire a comprehensive understanding of not only what is occurring with your body but also how it is affecting your daily life.

Step 2 - Determine the reason behind the onset of your symptoms.

Several individuals have a diagnosis or medical term for their bodily condition. It could be a diagnosis provided by their doctor, diagnosed through tests, or found online. For instance, you may have been diagnosed with Prolapse, Diastasis Recti, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Incontinence, Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Pain, or Hip/Back/Pelvic Pain.

You might have been informed that your sole alternatives were to rest, consume medication, or be patient and wait.

At times, these approaches may provide temporary relief, but they do not tackle the underlying CAUSE of the issue.

The cause of pain or symptoms varies from person to person. No two individuals have the same problem triggered by the same underlying issue.
Our objective at Enhance Physical Therapy is to identify the root cause of your problem so that your pain not only disappears but also remains at bay!

We realize that you may still harbor skepticism or uncertainty regarding whether Integrative Physical Therapy is the right approach for you. This is why we introduced a complimentary Discovery Call.

Our Discovery Calls are intended specifically for individuals who are hesitant, uncertain or have previously been disappointed.

Step 3 - Get Rid of Your Problem but Also Ensure That It Never Comes Back.

At this stage, significant changes take place. We create a customized plan that empowers you to…

…resume exercising without worrying about experiencing pain, stiffness, or incontinence issues.
…enjoy lifting and carrying your children without experiencing any issues.
…resume intimacy with your partner without any fear of pain.

We will create a personalized plan that enables you to resume your beloved activities and lifestyle, whether it’s practicing yoga, running, playing tennis, or anything else you enjoy, without any discomfort or limitation.

Regain your strength, confidence, and even sense of sexiness as your body heals from Diastasis Recti/Abdominal Separation and fully recovers its core strength.

Our most successful clients are those who are motivated and committed to regaining their active lifestyle, even if they currently feel stuck.

They know that physical therapy is not a quick fix, but putting in the work over time, results will be seen, as along as there is good communication and understanding between you and your physical therapist. Our goal at Enhance Physical Therapy is to find that original cause of your problem, so not only does your pain go away, it STAYS AWAY

There’s no need for you to give up the activities and family lifestyle that you enjoy because of fixable problems.
